KARIN BARRY

Karin began her career at TBWA Hunt Lascaris in its heyday in the late 90’s, where she got to work with the best creative minds in the country. Her very first print ad was for Land Rover, and won a Cannes Silver. Beginners luck, perhaps. In 2003 she moved to Ogilvy Johannesburg, where she was made a Creative Group Head and spent five years extending her creative profile on a number of big local and international brands. In 2007 Karin moved to Cape Town, and to King James CT, where she was the Head of Art for 6 years. For the last four years  she has gone freelance with her fabulous writer Paige Nick. They have been a creative team for 10 years.

Karin was invited to judge the Press category at Cannes Awards in 2011; the Press category for The Clio’s in 2012; The Busan ADstars in 2013 and very often present on The Loerie Awards judging panel.  In 2010 she was voted number one Art Director in the country by The Loeries Awards. In 2013, Karin was nominated onto the South African Creative Circle ExCo.

And in case you were wondering how she’s stacked up at the awards shows, since that first bit of beginners luck - she’s won her share at Cannes, Clio’s, D&AD, One Show and Art Directors Club, as well as lots of Loeries Awards including 2 Grands Prix.
